Who Am I?

“Who am I?” is the central question in life. What is your answer to this question, and how is your understanding helping you in life?
This article first examines various levels of self identity. Then it goes deeper to explore what “we are spiritual beings” really means. (Photo by Lucas Janin)
Will the true YOU please step forward?
We define ourselves in various ways:
1. I am (my name).
2. I am (my work position, social status, etc.).
3. I am (my life experiences).
4. I am (my thoughts, or the thinking mind).
5. I am (my soul or spirit).
#1 is just a label. #2, like “I am a sales manager.” or “I am a mother.” is just the role you are playing at this time. It’s pretty easy to see these are not the real YOU.
Some people are invested in their experiences and believe they are the sum or the result of their life experiences. “I was abused as a child and so I am incapable of building a healthy relationship. This is me.” or “I am an American and so I live this way.” But I don’t think human life is like a physics experiment. We have free will that allows us to go outside what our experiences define.
#4 is big. Someone said, “I think therefore I am.” If you don’t embrace the idea of the soul, I guess this is how you define yourself. Pretty obviously, you know you are not just the body you can see and touch. There is something within that does the thinking – your mind. So you are the mind, or the combination of your body and mind. (If you think the mind is just a function of the brain, then the mind is part of the body – still, you define yourself as the body / mind.)
Then there are those who believe in #5. I use to think this way, too. Our essence is the soul, or the spirit, that currently resides in the physical body. The thinking mind is only a tool. And when we die, the soul moves on, to eventually have another incarnation.
The idea seemed to work until I experienced Ascension soul shift myself.
Soul shifts and the Self
As Akashic Record Reading specialist, I read people’s soul records. Most people live with one soul for the entirety of his or her life. Or, rather, the soul lives its whole incarnation.
However, there are those who go through soul shifts. When this is the case, I can count exactly how many souls have been involved, the characteristics of each soul, and when the shift happened. And as I wrote in that article, soul shifting itself is nothing new. All varieties of soul shifts except the Ascension soul shift have been known for some time.
- Ongoing soul shifts
- One-time soul shifts, or walk-ins, including:
1) Reinstatement soul shifts
2) Complete possessions
3) Placeholder soul shifts
4) Special cases such as Pleiadean soul shifts
5) Ascension soul shifts
In each case, we can take one of the two perspectives to the question “Who am I?”
- I am the originally intended soul that was meant for me at birth.
- I am the soul I have now.
With ongoing soul shifts, there is one soul that was the originally intended soul. So although it was in the body only part of the time, we can say this is who he or she was meant to be. Alternatively, we can also interpret this situation that whichever soul that is in the body at the given moment is the self – at the time.
Similarly, in reinstatement soul shifts, we can say the originally intended soul that gets “reinstated” is the real you even though another soul was residing in the body for a while. It’s also valid to say that, when the other soul was residing in the body, that was you.
Complete possessions are sad cases. The originally intended soul gets kicked out by a negative soul. When this happens, I have to say the new soul is the you because there is no way to reverse the process.
Placeholder soul shifts are like reinstatement soul shifts but the first soul is a positive soul. So again, you are the originally intended soul. Or you can say the soul you had at the time is the real you.
How Ascension soul shifts differ from other soul shifts
However, Ascension soul shifts are different. With Ascension soul shift, the first soul is the originally intended soul. And the second soul is also intended – the shift is orchestrated somehow.
The repeatedly asked question about Ascension soul shift is “Why does this have to happen? What happens to the first soul? What happens to my spiritual development that I have accomplished as my first soul through many lifetimes?”
I sensed there was something bigger or higher than the soul that is still an individual, the ME, that was orchestrating these soul shifts. These soul shifts were not some random take over. At least the second soul knew the first soul and what was going on. But what is this “bigger or higher” something?
Here is my current understanding as I figured by communicating with my Akashic Record Guides.
The Source, the energy, and the soul
First there was the Source, the Source of all energy. The whole, therefore perfect, energy. Then it split part of it to create individualized forms of itself. Basically, it wanted to play. It was hard to play as a single existence ever, so it split itself to be many existences.
For now, let’s call these split energies “X’s”.
Some X’s became stars and planets. Most other X’s became residents of these star systems. Then they traveled around. Eventually some came to Earth, which is just another creation.
To live in the physical bodies on Earth, X’s split part of themselves to form souls in much the same manner the Source split itself to be X’s. Perhaps most X’s split out just one soul and watched over how it goes.
The soul lived in one body. When the body was done, the soul crossed over to the other side for a temporary rest, and eventually came back to live another lifetime. This went on and on for millenniums of time. All the while the X of the soul was watching over its progress.
Ascension is the new game
Recently planet Earth and its residents decided to work out a new game plan. We have gone through plenty of lifetimes and saw the various different sides of life. We have done enough of the “learning by contrast” game. More and more of us are reaching the point that we can possibly reach as the existing soul. So we are going to change the matrix itself. We are going to do this Ascension.
Ascension is about increasing the vibration rate. For many of us, the souls we’ve had were good souls that were intended for each of us at birth, but they can go up only to a certain level of vibration rate. So our X’s decided to upgrade. Each X created another soul from itself and sent it to us. This is Ascension soul shift.
Because the new soul originates from the same X, it is the same type, same background group and training. It just vibrates higher and has no physical past life.
Meet X, your Higher Self
Now the issue of terminology. This is where things get sticky because it’s quite possible that person A uses the term to mean something different from what person B means with the same term.
For me, X is my Higher Self. My Higher Self came directly from the Source, and it infuses part of it to form my soul in much the same way the Source infused part of it to form my Higher Self. My Higher Self can create many souls if it wants.
It’s like making photocopies. Any number of souls can come from the Higher Self. Once the soul is created and incarnates in the physical body, it gets its own experiences. Like you can write memos on one of the photocopies. We’ve got too many scribbles on our copies (souls) that we decided to start anew with a fresh copy.
Who am I really?
So there are higher levels of answers to the first question, “Who am I?”
6. I am (my Higher Self).
7. I am God, the Source, or – just, I am.
Does this make sense to you? It does to me, so I concluded my communication with my guides.
A note in communication with spirit guides
If you are interested in trying this yourself, here is a brief cautionary note. Spirits use your existing frame of reference to give you ideas. So the analogy you get may well be different from mine.
Plus they are quite practical in their teaching. They know there are levels of understanding. Say, Newton’s law of gravity may or may not work in Einstein’s world, but if your understanding of physics is high school level (like most of us), they are not going to mention Einstein. They know that would just complicate things unnecessarily. So they tell you the law of gravity as Newton figured it out. If you work for NASA, on the other hand, you may get a different response. Both are, in a sense, “right” answers.
The answers I received make sense to me and so it’s good for me. For now. When my spirituality evolves further, I might get a new answer that may seem to contradict to what I know now. Just a possibility.
Ascension is a process to be one with God, or to be God
So the Ascension process promotes higher awareness of who we really are. We are not just our souls that goes through many lifetimes. We are our Higher Selves that are looking over all these experiences.
Further, we are the Source. We are God, the Creator. The split part is essentially the same in quality with the original. It’s a smaller individualized version, but like a piece of holograph, it has all the power and information of the original.
It gets really hard to “know” who I am at this level. It’s like trying to see my own nose. Not by the reflection on the mirror, but trying to see my nose itself. We are not quite capable of doing this. Likewise, after rigorous examination of who I am, seemingly ironically, I reach a point where I say, “I just am.” Everything and everyone are part of me, appearing to be different for the fun of it.
How do you identify yourself? Are you using the power that comes from realizing you are the Source?

Akemi – another fascinating post. The soul shifting idea is new to me, I am going to sit with it for awhile. My background is more in Vajrayana Buddhism and Kundalini yoga, so I understand the vibrational shift side of things, but always tended to think of the changes as the same being evolving rather than a new soul. And actually in Buddhism there really isn’t the concept of a soul – it is more like a collection of energies and karmas that some people CALL a soul, but the enlightenment process is one of moving beyond these (which also raises your vibrational rate.) So I do think in different terms but found this fascinating nevertheless.
FYI – I tried to submit my info for a reading yesterday, and also tried emailing you, but kept getting error messages. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of it…opposition in action I suppose!!

Bit too long for me, but I definitely like the first part. Its funny to see people associate themselves with labels such as their jobs or careers. I mean if you think about it, when someone tells you they are an accountant, it almost looks like they took a piece of paper and read their title from.
The opposite is when someone tells you well i help customers max out their rrsp or get the biggest tax refund they can.
that sure makes a difference, it is more of a human touch, because really who would you strike up a conversation with more?

I think vibration change happens both within one soul and with soul shift. I think my analogy of elevators in tall tower works pretty well. A soul can increase its vibration rate, like an elevator going up. But in certain tall towers, the elevator goes only to a certain floor and then, you must get off and switch to another elevator that takes you to higher floors.

Hi Akemi – This is interesting and I understand it a lot better now. I wouldn’t like to be one of those people who have their soul booted out by a negative one though. Is there anything we can do to stop this from happening?
So far, I’m getting a reasonable understanding of how we are Source. But I haven’t got as far as really knowing how to use that power yet. I’m trying my best to get there though. Meditation is one thing that is definitely helping.

I guess you are talking about complete possessions? I think they develop from partial possessions (I think — I have very little experience with complete possessions because people who go through this — meaning they have negative souls now — would not come to my service), and partial possessions are something I can take care of.
However, all one time soul shifts are done deal — whether the new soul is positive or negative, it’s a complete switch, and once it’s done, there is no way to reverse.
We are God, and this is why the Law of Attraction works. I will write that part of the story soon.

I have seen your comments now on a few sites and decided to follow over here as you have me intrigued.
Although I still sometimes catch myself identifying with #5, after having read Eckhart Tolle’s book “A New Earth” , I was actually able to move to #6 and even #7.
I know it still makes a lot of people uncomfortable to think that way or represent or see oneself that way, but it really makes sense to me. We are so much more than anything we could every grasp or understand, and that is why to me it makes perfect sense that when we take away all of the layers, and illusions, all that is left is “I AM” and how wonderful is that. So fresh, so freeing.
Now as an aside I do know someone close to me who I wonder about their soul and about a possible partial possession. Any advice?

Yeah, it feels good but does take courage to say I Am (God).
Now about your friend. . . My best advice is to please order my Akashic Record Reading and clearing. Because until I actually see his or her Record, I don’t know if it’s really a possession, and I can’t do the clearing. Sorry this sounds like a sales pitch, but this is just the honest professional advice. Doctors cannot give diagnosis and treatment by hearing the symptoms — they need to see the patient. Similarly I need to read the person’s Akashic Record to say anything specific and to do clearing. And if it is indeed a possession, the only way I know to clear it is my way of clearing — I am not aware of the over-the-counter type way to deal with it.

Sometimes we want to help others, but not always is it the right choice – and I constantly play with that – to know when not to interfere with a soul’s evolution. I realize that sometimes the soul just needs to go through various experiences to evolve to its higher potential, no matter how those experiences may seem to us.

Thanks for this post. One thing I noticed a while back is how invested I was in stage #3 you describe — in my case it was “I’m everything I have and haven’t accomplished.” What I’ve been doing recently is asking “do I have any evidence right now, in this moment, that I’ve done anything, or that anything has happened in the past, or that anything will happen in the future?” And the truth, which was a little scary at first, was that I do not. It is very interesting to learn yours point of view and hypotheses but did you ever actually think that it could be all logic calculation of your mind based on everything recorded that brain would use for creating his self perception?
Since I’m, i changed my hypotheses and my point of view of everything a hundreds of time going to the extended understanding of all, based on mathematical calculation, undeniable universal logic’s, imagination and spirit eye.
Taking in count karma, spirit, higher extension, self negation, chaos structures balance based laws, conditioning, self conditioning, believes and etc.
I been trough this point of view of yours akemi as well and every time i found out that i’v been manipulated by omnipotent self extension of I’m.
I know now that everything coming out of calculation its a illusion broad up by necessity of self attribution of valor which make us seen as we see.
I think there are not separation of spirit or higher me, shift from good soul to bad.
There is only one : a infinity see of esoteric energies forms and chaos based laws which make beginning of structured creation of spiritual been.
Like a algorithm that looking for self perfecting through the material existence, we extending own self through the time-matrices–energies, sicking of eternal.
We are not disposed to know the trout here, as the trout will set us free. As free you will give up any researches of it, which will stop your progression-as your progression depend on experiences lived and emotional charges delivered.

How can the soul affect the mind or the mind affect the soul? I really like these ideas. Like we all have a little piece of godliness inside us trying to work it’s way back to the source. The original singularity.
Who am I? is actually an ancient mantra which if repeated enough and with passion will lead to Self Realization or enlightenment.
That I am comprehension is ancient. We were first aware of this in the Upanishads then in the New Testament (The Kingdom is within, physician heal thy self, All that I have done and more you shall do and more if you but follow me, etc.)
In modern revelation we read in A Course in Miracles, “There is no duality”

Note:
The Diamon Sutra is the key used as “diamon sword” to stop all illustion during your journey. In there, the buddha teaches you step by step of how to meditate dialy as well as the path to enlightment.
The Shurangama Samadhi Sutra will help you to better understanding each of the processes, steps and levels that YOU are not sure [like a map]. Once you understood/comprehence the teachings in the Shurangama Samadhi Sutra, you will never mispercept or misled by your illusion during your journey.
These two sutra are the main teaching used in Zen Buddhism.
I am not sure what practice you are following, but if you want to get to the real enlightment – permanent enlightment – permanent truth of who you really are, these sutra are your map and daily bible as a guidant.
Like a drop of water. If you meditate about its forms (or transformations) and the purity self, you will also experience a similar analogy. Meaning that regardless of whatever forms it is in [ice, liquid drinking, food, or cloud, steam..etc] or places it has traveled, the self of water element is always H2O. Now, if I am water! I am medidating on “Who Am I” or “Me”, I then come to a conclusion that I am a combination of 2H and 1O! Well, not sure whether this will end up somewhere in the enlightment book though!
If you are stuck on your meditation, then take a deep breath and keep trying in another time. In fact, meditation is the conciousness of the self and sometimes the word “super conciousness” is also applied here. The energy of the self is never “stuck”, therefore, if you are stuck in meditation, it can mean that you are going a wrong way!

Thanks for the enlightment on who am really, but I wished to how well to diversify the negative shifting of the soul toward positivity; as in ascension soul shift which often ascends to negative soul.
There was once a time when I was lost and maybe in some ways I still am. I know that Im here for the better. I can relate to almost everything mentioned on your site Akemi, but I have my douts now. I wish for a world without control or power, evil or corruption. I realize that I need the support of others to help me come out of the shell im in. I also realize that evan in all this you will not reply to me reaching out for help becuase you say we must pay you first to analyze us. This is where im confused. I was enlightened by some of them as well such as Ascension Soul Shifts which I have not heard before. Also, you explained your view of reincarnation justly however I still am not completely converted with that philosophy.

Interesting to see some of the intellectualization that goes on in various responses to the question. In my humble view, the intellect is the great Wizard of Oz.
Who am I is the question of ascension. Ask it continuously and one ascends. The ascension is of course a perceptual one since we go nowhere as there is no up or down. As for one or two who wish to be in a place of no conflict what they are asking is to become enlightened at will.

How do I begin? I need your help. I have read hundreds of articles and listened to advice from countless people. Your blog somehow makes sense to me and rings a bell. I can understand the”X” and the “splits”. I don’t know when it happened but I’m sure that the split that occupies my body is not the one I started with. I long to have it back. I know that it watches over my current incarnation and communicates on some level as well. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought of ending my current self here recently. It’s getting worse and is becoming more consuming everyday. I’m being torn apart and don’t know why. My head will not stop swimming. I’ve seen doctors and have tried numerous medications to no avail. I know that’s not the answer but what is? If there is anyway you can help me or just anything you can do, I would be forever grateful. Your blog is the only thing that has made the least bit of sense about what I’m going through. Thank you so much.
..there one creator….he is on the planet now…he is the last person to ascend when ascention occurs , this globe called earth is heaven ..and was made for the first female….all others ( the originals) are the caretakers of this Garden…….man made time THE creator has a grid…no one is supposed to die ..or age….this planet belongs to no one but the Creator…. the time track was made to control man..by man….THE dark side has lost..,…ascention will occur…..all who have preyed on their fellow man..will live the lives they have tormented before they Ascend……..
Planet Earth can also be hell. What is in the mind will project to the illusory eternal. Healing can take place as one releases the notion that the body is anything but a passing field of electrons. There are no real possessions. The surrendering of the illusion is a way to self-realization, healing and peace.
Additionally, the spiritual path is singular and earned. There is no such thing as a “mass ascension.” Consider the illogical aspects of that idea. In truth, each soul or entity is on a singular path; else, there would be no individuation. After Earth plane experience the individual finds itself in that dimension that conforms to the wavelength it has found through choice of thought.
Akemi, the individual is lost in a quagmire it, itself, is projecting. The erroneous idea that linear time is real is part of the quagmire. Nothing perceived by the human mind is real nor can be real due to the simple fact that it is ephemeral. Consider the reality value of something that is there now and gone in the next moment. Nothing that can be perceived will be around in some other moment. The direction of focus must be to the Self for realization of whom we really are to take place. As the ancient Hindus correctly posited, the perceived world is illusion.

Gnosticism (the ancient Greek belief that only spirit matters…matter) just keeps on keepin’ on it seems. Psychology, religion, spiritualism: they’ll never figure out how to deal with a person as a whole, because it can’t be humanly done. We’re too wonderfully complex and intertwined, constantly in flux. If only there were an owners manual to the human life from the manufacturer…that would simplify things quite a bit.

I have thought over these ideas of possible truths for so long it has giving me peace to know my higher self or u can say god the father son and holy spirit. We are a reflection of one another like looking through two mirrors u see multiple images but there is only one self the same one that has been her since the beginning of the end its hard for us to comprehen this reality that is why we choose to separate our self through religion race and raw war because we fear what we don’t understand. So look at it through my eye GOD is able to create any thing space exploration has reviled this to us so are planet should be more than enough to marvel at our accomplishment in the spirit realm of existance with no challenge HE needs a challenge so HE We created US to learn from mistakes to rise victorious over our accomplishments who are we. We are lost looking for guidance. We choose to forget to experience everything new. Let US being peace without war soon to move on to the next big challenge? Finding the beginning of us the end.
Some have left comments like “I am God” or “I am life observing life”. They are all true, but it does no good to memorize such “magic words”. Regardless how loud you say it. When you know, you lose words.

Saying IF GOD is true then my love for U is too , shows uncertainty just by saying IF. God is true and so is love, mankind is the big IF due to our selfishness and lack of commitment toward anything except for destruction. LOVE anyway is a misused word. we have created a image of a god that has no flaws, I say a god because we have giving another an existence, the devil as the god of this sstem of things. Love is one like god is one it can make u or break u it is up to you. Your love for her should be second to none. To know if her love is true, only be concern with your love worrying IF her love is true will break you good or bad sweet or sour better or for worse its all one love
Okay, this article was well thought out and had good qualities but like Lisa (the mystic mommie from above), the ‘soul shifting’ thing was the one idea that I am going to have to sit with a while… I have thought out the possibilities of walk-ins and refuse my body to be turned into a rental car so I WILL NOT entertain the thought of it EVER happening. I sat with IT long enough LISA! NO, is my answer, LOL!
