5 Q&A About Spirit Guides

spirit guides

Spirit guides – I’m glad many people are finally opening up to this wonderful resource.  Hope this article helps you to connect and communicate with your own spirit guides.  (Photo by alicepopkorn)

Your spirit guide team or committee

First, you have more than one spirit guide.  You have inner circle spirit guides who work exclusively for you and who are with you all the time.  Then you have outer circle spirit guide team, each member with specific function, such as your astral guide who guides you through the astrals while you sleep.  Beyond this, there are your teachers, masters, and angels . . .

When I just say “spirit guides”, I’m talking about the inner circle spirit guides. You want to focus on communicating with them because they know you intimately and they work closely with you.  If there are jobs that are beyond their capabilities, they can pass it on to higher guides and work as mediators.

You may also have one or more special assignment guides on the inner circle.  These are temporary spirit guides (by temporary, I mean for a few weeks or for the rest of your life) with specific assignment.

Who are spirit guides?

Your spirit guides are NOT your ancestors nor your deceased family members.  At least, I have never seen such cases.  However, you may have shared physical lifetimes with them in your past life.  Or you may not have.

You hired your spirit guides at some point in your life.  Typically, people are born with one spirit guide (also called birth guide) and hire more spirit guides as they grow up.  The hiring ends as you reach adulthood (by age 30 usually), with four to seven spirit guides on the inner circle.  Of course, special assignment guides are exceptions – you may be hiring them at any time in your life, as the need arises.

Your spirit guides have agreed to serve as your spirit guides, so don’t be afraid to utilize them.  They want to help you.  They do their further development by serving you.  They are a few steps ahead of you in spiritual evolution, so they have higher perspective and insights that you can benefit from.

Common questions about spirit guides

1. “Why do I have more than one spirit guide?”

It’s better to have a team.  Each spirit guide has personalities, just like we do.  Some lead the team with grand  big visions, but don’t pay much attention to details.  Some are happy, smiley people person (sorry, I mean spirit) and hold the team dynamics.  Some are good at technical analytical thinking.  Some are very nurturing and comforting.  Together they make a great team.

If you recognize only one spirit guide, you may be communicating with your first (birth) guide.  He or she can work as the representative of the whole team.

It’s also important to understand the number of spirit guides on the inner circle doesn’t mean better or worse.  A team of four is just as well as a team of six.  Personally, when I had six spirit guides (prior to my soul shifting), I found myself communicating with just two of them most of the time.  It was easier for me that way.

2. “Isn’t it better to communicate with higher beings, like angels?”

It’s essential to leave elitist thinking here.  Your inner circle spirit guides are just a few steps ahead of you, which means they can relate to you well, and vice versa.  Don’t underestimate them just because they are not terribly ahead of you. You don’t want super advanced guides. That’s like having Einstein teach high school science. The students won’t learn much from him ? they need a teacher who can explain things in their terms.

This doesn’t mean higher level beings like angels are not useful to us – of course, they are.  On a daily basis, however, your spirit guides are your trusted resource.

3. “What’s the name of my spirit guide?”

I guess this question comes from the idea that you need to know the spirit guide’s name to communicate with them.  Well, you don’t.  You can just address them “my spirit guides”.

But of course, more information such as the name and appearance of each of your spirit guides can help you tremendously, so I offer Spirit Guides Reading.  I also offer Spirit Guides Coaching, which is a six week program to learn how to communicate with your own spirit guides experientially.  It’s been a great success and I recommend it to anyone who is serious about utilizing this amazing resource.

4. “Do I need help from a psychic or medium to communicate with my spirit guide?”

No. You don’t need them. You are fully capable of communicating with your own spirit guides yourself. However, you may find it helpful to get some training.

It’s like learning how to drive a car.  Did you find it helpful to have someone more experienced next to you when you were first learning how to drive?  Most likely.  And hopefully, that someone was able to explain things in the way you understand rather than just screaming “NO!”

Same thing with learning how to communicate with your spirit guides.  And this is why I offer Spirit Guides Coaching.  Learn it by doing it with me.  You’ll get my special report, too, so you can practice more at home by yourself.

5. “But do I really have spirit guides?”

Aaaaagh, this is a super critical question.  Because you are right, some people do not have spirit guides.  I’m sorry, I don’t intend to scare you, but it’s something I frequently find in my Akashic Record Reading.

Some souls lose spirit guides with traumatic experience.  Some souls dismiss them by mistake.  Or there could be any other reasons.  Clients who don’t have spirit guides usually know this at a deep level.  They feel very lonely and helpless, literally.  They may have given up prayers because they were disappointed with the results of their previous prayers.

When I find out there are no spirit guides, I restore the spirit guides team.  (Yes, it’s absolutely possible to restore them!  So don’t despair.)

Another very harmful situation with spirit guides is that some people have negative spirit guides who misguide them.  This is extremely confusing because you can’t tell if an advice is coming from a good spirit guide or from a negative one.  (Again, this situation can be repaired.)

Did I cover all your questions about spirit guides?  If you have more questions, please leave it in the comment.  Thank you.

Update:  Thank you for all the comments!  I will write another post (it’s here!) about spirit guides soon.  Regarding your individual cases, such as if you have any spirit guides, or what their names may be, I have no idea until I read your Akashic Records.

Let me put it this way. It would be totally irresponsible and unprofessional if a doctor gave diagnosis just by hearing your description of what you are experiencing. They can write articles on healthcare, but individual cases need individual attention. Likewise, I can share general info on this blog, but I cannot talk about your specific case just by reading your comment. I strive for my professionalism. So if you are serious about improving your communication with your spirit guides, please order Spirit Guides Reading or Spirit Guides Coaching. Thank you.

Akemi – this topic has been on my mind lately. I considered myself Buddhist for many years, and the idea of spirit guides, at least as you describe them, does not exist in that tradition. In Tibetan Buddhism there are definitely many layers of beings, and we might have teachers in other realms, but I have never come across the idea that we have a group ‘assigned’ just to us. So this is difficult for me to accept. On the other hand, I never feel alone, I do sense many guiding teachers, particularly within the Buddhist lineage that I studied within. So I guess my question is, if spirit guides are so universal, why isn’t the idea of spirit guides found in all the major religions, including Buddhism? Thanks-

  2. akemi on February 15th, 2009 8:09 pm

    Hi Lisa,

Well, I’m not an expert in world religions or Buddhism, other than I’m originally from a country that is predominantly Buddhists. And I know Japanese believe in spirit guides — they just don’t call them that way.

There are many forms of Buddhisms because they didn’t kill all the unorthodox believers like Christians did. I think the original Buddhism is about multi deities, so the idea of spirit guides become rather irrelevant (when you already have thousands of deities of various kinds). Zen Buddhism, on the other hand, believe in oneself and only, so I guess they don’t endorse the idea of spirit guides. . .

But I don’t think it is important to justify the idea of spirit guides by existing religions. What matters is what works for you.

  3. Lisa on February 16th, 2009 11:19 am

Thx. And I didn’t mean to come off as critical, it is actually just an issue I have been thinking about a lot, mostly because I teach meditation, and do not teach spirit guide communication as part of it, but am often asked about it.

  4. akemi on February 16th, 2009 12:29 pm

Oh, I didn’t take it as criticism. Sorry if I sounded that way.
It’s great you are helping others meditate. Do your people have questions about spirit guides I didn’t cover in this post?

[...] On the soul level, we all have more or less of male and female energy. A soul may be predominantly male, predominantly female, or androgynous with about the same amount of male and female energy. This applies to both incarnated souls and spirit guides. [...]

I was interested in what you said about negative spirit guides. I have several questions:

    1. What sort of things do negative spirit guides get you to do? Do they get you to go for a job that’s not good for you, give up religion or hate yourself? Also, where do they come from and why are they attracted to you?

    2. Once you dismiss your spirit guides, do they ever return on their own? And how do you know they have returned?

    3. Is it possible to experience spritual guides while on mind-altering medication such as anti-depressants?

I would be grateful if you could answer these questions for me! This seems like a genuine and credible website.

  7. vanessa on June 30th, 2009 8:27 am

    Sorry, just another quick question!

Can music be a spiritual guide? I’ve found through the years that the only thing that has remained consistent even in the midst of depression and when I’d given up on everything else including friendship and religion , is my love of music. Listening to it, collecting it, researching the meanings of lyrics. All sorts of music. And I’m not an aspiring artist or singer.

  8. akemi on June 30th, 2009 3:41 pm

    Great questions!

    1. Negative spirit guides run a program that manipulates your thinking. For example, it causes you to be extra anxious when you don’t need to be. Do they direct you to a mismatched job? Perhaps.
I don’t know exactly where they come from. Like all other spirit guides, we hire them — by mistake. Like this negative guide who has a program of anxiety. At some point in their life, the client wanted to feel anxiety — probably as a way to get motivated at work so that she could get ahead in the corp world. So she hires the guide, without knowing the long term effects of having such program and the spirit guide who runs it. Now she can’t relax when she wants…This is just one example, but I hope it gives you an idea how things work.

    2. Like all other clearing of energetic issues, I consider my clearing of negative spirit guides to be a done deal. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever have another negative guides, though.

    3. Well, I have no experience with mind altering drugs, so I may not be the right person for this question. I strongly doubt such drugs to be even remotely helpful, however. I mean, you don’t need such stuff to communicate with your spirit guides. They are always with you and willing to communicate with you.

Spirit guides are non-physical beings. Music can be a great help to get you relaxed so that you are more receptive to your spirit guides’ messages. Or your spirit guides may use music as a way to pass their messages.

I hope this helps you. If you have more questions, please feel free to leave another comment.

hey im 17 ive kept in contact with my spirit guide who i discovered on the ouija board when i was 14 (he told me he was a protector) hes helped me loads over the past few years and at some points predicted a near future event i usualy communicate with him through automatic writing now what id like to know is

    1. will he ever break contact so we no longer communicate because it seems i talk less to him now.?
    2. other than autowriting and ouija what other way is good to communicate?
    3. how do i actually know hes my spirit guide and not just my sub concious mind?

  10. akemi on July 21st, 2009 7:43 am

Well, I don’t know you nor your spirit guides, so I can only respond in a generic way:
    1. Spirit guides can leave us, although that is a pretty rare event. It also depends if that specific spirit guide is a permanent member of your team or if he is a special assignment guide to begin with.
    2. You can just talk to your own spirit guides.
    3. That is a challenge many people have. One way to overcome this doubt is to act on their advice and see what happens. If it’s really their guidance, the result would be somewhat different from your regular course of action that you take, which is usually based on your ego.

  11. ness on August 4th, 2009 3:03 am

    Hi Akemi,

Thanks for your feedback on a previous post. It’s taking me a long time to digest all of it.

When I talked about mind-altering drugs- I was talking about antidepressants- which make you feel numb and unable to feel normal emotions like concern, romantic love etc. Therefore, would you be able to receive messages from your spirit guides in this numbed state?

I’m finding this whole idea of spirit guides difficult to grasp. Can spirit guides lead you to reading a book/several books that change your life? Can spirit guides guide you to overcome depression and start viewing life in a positive life? It seems that this might have happened with me. But could this just be my subconscious? How do I know my spirit guides want me to be happy? Why? What could be the over-all purpose of their guidance?

Another question I have is- are there any signs which could point to what gender you were in past lives? Anything that could indicate who you were in a past life? I can’t get a sense of who I could have been. I feel very ordinary. My life is ordinary. I have no significant passions. I’m drawn to everything and anything.

Hope this isn’t too much for you…

  12. ness on August 4th, 2009 3:08 am

Another quick question! Can you have a team of guides which don’t get along with each other?

  13. lisa on August 17th, 2009 2:28 pm

I have been trying to learn how to meditate so I can connect with my spirit guide, but so far I haven’t gotten anywhere with it. Can you please tell me the name and gender of my spirit guide?

    Thanks so much!!

    I was born april 22, 1968

  14. akemi on August 19th, 2009 8:14 am

Sure, please check my Akashic Record Reading website and order the first reading and Spirit Guides Reading. Thank you. (You don’t think someone who don’t know you can just tell you about your spirit guides out of your avatar, right?)

  15. Linny on August 25th, 2009 10:20 pm

    Hi Akemi,
What fantastic information you have on offer. I had a couple of reki sessions a few years back and the lady said I had a dark snake shape like energy inside my tummy that I had called in to help me deal with something when I was younger would this be a negative spirit guide maybe? I have been thinking alot about trying to contact my guides but honestly Im really scared, is this normal? I often get the deep down feeling that I am alone and suffer depression ,addiction, anger management issues and major mood swings and in times of dispair I often find myself asking for help. I hope Im not ignoring my guides, do they give up on us? I also have the feeling that Im going to get in trouble, is that a normal feeling? :-)

  16. Caden on October 2nd, 2009 3:51 pm

Ok i sent my spirit guide once to protect someone while i was away from them ( though i was healing them at a start w/ my guide) can i lose her that way?

How do we restore them? Or do we get them back when we make contact again?

And by restore, do you mean restore the same guide, so we started with so and so, lost them, and then got them back? Or new guides? How do I restore?

  17. Nikki on October 25th, 2009 10:31 pm

    Hi Akemi!

I’ve been very successful at contacting my spirit guides through meditation. I mostly communicate with my main spirit guide because I feel the most comfortable with her and she seems to appear the most. Two others usually appear only when I ask. Anyways, I haven’t meditated for awhile since my busy college and social life has taken over me. I knew my spirit guides would still be there if I don’t communicate through meditation but lately I’ve been scared that they’ve left all together…especially my main one, Elizabeth but I never dismissed them. I’ve always felt love with them and never wanted them to leave. Is it possible they just left or could it be that they’re not needed in my life at this point in time?

    Hi ,

I just saw your website and love it . I was thinking of going to a medium and wanted to wait till I had some money to spend . I have been through alot of trauma in life such as a tumor and some psychosis. I have gone to a hindu temple and felt love the first time I was there like it was home before my tumor and psy. I still have questions about life and were I’m going. I still want to achieve my goals like starting a tutoring business or counseling center. Something that has to do with helping kids with developmental problems and help them succeed in life. I love to read books about spirit guides things like that or past lives. I used to live in Sedona and loved it there it was magical.

  21. nind on February 12th, 2010 1:12 pm

I’ve tried to meditate but I can’t seem to make contact with my spirit guides so I ended up ringing up a medium who told me that I had two guides. But what i dont understand is why haven’t they helped me in the past when I’ve specifically asked for it?!..and yes I have been patient! I’d like to recieve the odd message from them in meditation but nothing yet.

  22. nind on February 12th, 2010 1:18 pm

By the way does anyone have a samurai guide and how have you learnt from them? thx

  23. Liz on February 13th, 2010 10:08 am

You said we “hired” the spirit guides. This suggests a give and take aspect. What do they get in return?

  24. nind on February 13th, 2010 12:11 pm

    huh!..who hired who?!

  25. Liz on February 13th, 2010 2:20 pm

In the article above, under the heading “Who Are Sprite Guides”, a paragraph begins with : “You hired your spirit guides at some point in your life…”

  26. nind on February 13th, 2010 2:52 pm

oh yes of course..thats a good question.

  27. akemi on February 13th, 2010 9:46 pm

My understanding is that, by assisting us, spirit guides do their own spiritual growth, so that is what they “get”. And this is why we don’t need to be shy asking for their assistance. We don’t want to be too demanding, like a mean boss, but we don’t need to shy away, either.

I learned after the experience that what happened to me was I had two negative guides who allowed me to be manipulated. I have had them sent away and am now wondering how to move on from here. I’m upset at myself for allowing my gift to become negative in my life and I was only looking to seek some life coaching. What do you do when this happens. Okay I am new to this site and don’t want to be critical but I have to be honest. So far the information is interesting but all the GOOD stuff is for SALE> What can I learn on my own??? How is it you can Help me get a possibly MISSING spirit guide when I don’t know if I even believe in them?? Anyone else thinking that its all a sales pitch??? I need actual help but I have NO money to buy it. Any suggestions?

  32. Akemi on May 5th, 2010 9:56 am

Well, I clearly state in the article that you don’t need my or anyone else’s help to communicate with your spirit guides. They are yours.
Btw you seem to have a very negative mindset about making money. I don’t think there is anything wrong about me or anyone charging a decent fee for the service we do. If you don’t think the service is worth it, then you don’t need it. Your negative mindset about money only hurts your abundance.

  33. emerald on July 24th, 2010 4:23 am

    Hi Akemi,
You said that we might have shared physical lifetimes with our spirit guides in past life(s). However, different psychics I’ve worked with to receive spiritual guides messages have unanimously told me that spirit guides never share a physical life with us because otherwise they would be partial and that affect their ability to guide us. I’m really confused about these two different stores- could you help clarify? Thanks!

  34. Akemi on July 28th, 2010 8:30 am

Being partial? So you don’t think you can help or guide your friends and family?
That doesn’t make sense to me personally.

  35. Joshua Bagby on August 24th, 2010 9:21 am

    Hi Akemi,

I had never heard of the idea of negative spirit guides before. I assumed that guides were somehow bound by some cosmic force or code to be helpful. Yet when I wrote a novel that included a lot of psychic phenomena, it occurred to me that guides were not just here to “protect” us. If we had certain karmic lessons to learn, by nature we would encounter adversity so that we could overcome it. It’s like in college you have to do a lot of things you don’t especially like so that you can learn. Same thing n Earth School.

I have never heard of negative spirit guides, but clearly on earth there are negative guides, such as therapists who are more interested in their profits than in helping people. I’ll be interested to explore this topic more.

  36. Diane on August 25th, 2010 7:51 pm

Akemi, I feel you are and taking advantage of hurting souls. If I had a gift to to share with others, I would do my best to offer those gifts to the best of my ability to those who need it. Yes you have a right to earn a living, but if you were a true spiritual person, you would do your best to offer it freely. You remind me of our health care system. If you want to be healthy, you have to have money. I can understand why you have knowledge on negative spirit guides.

Please do tell me something about me that will convince me your not full of it.

    Sat Nam

  37. Akemi on August 26th, 2010 6:20 am

Fine, you can think whatever you please. You are free to do that. And I know that there are many people who insist like you, that “spiritual service should be free”. As if spiritual service providers have no right to have a decent living.

And you are going a step further to manipulate me and other spiritual being by saying, “if you are spiritual…” Again it doesn’t matter at all to me what you think. I know we are all spiritual, and as I wrote in my recent articles, I don’t think I am any better than others in spiritual development.

All I am seeking is to work with people who appreciate my service and understand its value. If you don’t, then you won’t get anything from my service even if you get it free.

  38. Benjamin on October 1st, 2010 11:07 am

I’ve been using Christianity as a way to be more spiritual so I can be in conversation with my spirit guide all the time. In Christianity, the spirit guide is called the ‘Holy Spirit.’ I feel desperate to hear any spirit guides that are good. Last year, I encountered my spirit guide because I started to feel people’s auras as I passed them. The psychic gift was to tell me who to hug and pray for. However, I ended up failing to interpret the different auras and I lost the gift. I want my spirit guide back. I still have dreams, so I have some spirit guides, but I don’t know if there are any in my personal Circle of Power. I’m desperate to start feeling the spirits of others and to start healing random people again. Can you help me out?

I actually see blue sparks at times. Usually I see them most evidently when it’s dark. I see green and violet in my mind screen when I close my eyes. The form circles engulfing each other. I feel like there’s static electricity in my hands all the time ever since I started meditating with a technique I learned from I’ve heard audible messages from my spirit guide a few times last year, but I don’t hear him any more. What’s going on? Where are my spirit guides? Have they left? For some reason, when the Holy Spirit would tell me something, and I respond with a question, he doesn’t respond. What”s up with that? I want to get more connected with the good spirits out there that make up the Holy Spirit so we can have a functional discussion and I can be empowered to heal people again.

I am a 52 year old woman who has always felt as though I can sense when something is going to happen. I get a keen sense. I dont always know what is going to happen, but, I know something is.. I used to hear someone calling me. It sounded like they were far away, but, I am hard of hearing, and I could hear them call my name loud and clear. It was a familiar voice. I wish I knew what they wante to tell me.

I remember crying and praying to God one night. God, I feel so alone, talk to me God, please, talk to me. I need you and I rocked myself to sleep. crying. I was a single mom of three. I woke up in the middle of the night because someone whispered in my right ear (my deaf ear), “you have comapany”. I jumped up, looked all over the house and out the windows. No nothing, no cars outsiide. It didint dawn on me until a few days later, that they were telling me you are not alone. I felt so special and loved.

Has anyone else ever had anything like this happen to them? I would love to hear about it. Laure

I called for my husband which was in recliner watching tv and he didn’t hear me. I kept calling and i was holding onto the door frame and started hitting the wall with the brush trying to get his attention but then i woke. What does this mean.

    Hello, Akemi. :-)

I stumbled across this page in hopes to regain a part of me which I had been suppressing for quite a while. You’ve given some great insight, so thank you!

A couple years back, I went to see a psychic who told me I had a very high number of spirit guides. (I believe she said between 10 and 14…?) Does having a high number mean anything of significance?

    Thanks for your time,

  44. Akemi on November 17th, 2010 10:12 am

I don’t know. Usually the spirit guide team is 4 to 7. You might have many special assignment guides. But I cannot speak for another psychic — check with her if you have questions.

  45. Jennifer on December 31st, 2010 12:00 am

Dear Diane, I have to thank you – you sound like my husband! Who was once told (and then embraced the idea) that it should be free to do meditation workshops. It is unfortunate not to realize that even spiritual leaders need to eat and live in houses with mortgages; send children to school; and also support their own spiritual leaders (who help the former to keep helping us).
I did benefit from this discussion and I want to thank you for that. I agree that this negative mindset about money surely must hamper one’s ability to manifest abundance. And it is my plan to share this perspective with my husband. I truly think this may help him. (Not to mention, get him off my back about spending money on my spiritual development!) The best to you in 2011.

Hello. I have just started reading about spiritual guides lately. Is it possible for another human to be a spiritual guide? My son is five and since his birth I have found that he consistently challenges me, but not in a typical child-mother relationship. I have other kids and this one is just different somehow. This relationship has strengthened my capacity for love and patience notably. Strangly I feel like he is my mother sometimes! Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the great article Akemi!

Are the spirit guides the same as the Ishta Devata of Buddhism?

That is, is this the same as a Guardian Angel? I’m trying to figure this out!

Hi, Akemi, I was interested in what you had to say about some people not having spirit guides. I believe I may be one of those people. I am 64 years old now and a lot nearer my end than my beginning and I have always felt completely alone. I’m sure I would feel that there was a spirit guide with me if there was one. But I don’t feel that there is anyone there. I have asked my spirit guides or guide (if they are there) to show me a sign that they are there, but have received no sign. Also, what you say about some people having spirit guides in the beginning, but losing them through a traumatic event. When I was six years old in 1953, I nearly died in a near fatal accident in frightening circumstances. So it could be that my spirit guide, on seeing this, decided that was enough for him and left me to it. Who knows? Well, somebody, somewhere, must know. My life has been pretty pointless, never been married, never had any children, never achieved anything in life, ect. A complete waste of time, really. Although to be fair, illness and ill health have held me back somewhat. Whenever I have tried to progress, I hit up against the proverbial brick wall at every turn in the road. So, what has been the point of all this useless life? Well, that’s an entirely different subject. But, if I don’t have any spirit guides, or have never had any, I would like to know the reason why.

Thought I would jump in to say that I am 62 and have never experienced anything paranormal myself, no NDE or OBE or seeing anything glowing in the dark. Any sign I have ever had has been very subtle and could easily be imaginary (which is not to say that they weren’t cool). It is sometimes hard for me to accept that I am never alone or that there are angels around me all the time because I don’t perceive them. I too feel that there have been many brick walls. I have been looking for more meaning in my life. I want to feel more that I am contributing something positive to humanity. I want to connect more with people in meaningful ways. Answers have not been very easy to grasp. On the other hand, people who have had near-death experiences often report that it’s not the big things we’ve done that matter. It’s the little things, like smiling at a stranger or listening to someone who needs to vent. My suggestion would be to become your own spirit guide. What would give your life meaning? Bottom line is that spirit guides are only that…guides. We make the choices in life. All of that, anyway, is what I have decided for me.

Well, as Shakespeare once famously wrote, there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in our philosophy. In fact, something happened to me eighteen months ago that might mean I saw my spirit guide in a dream (if, indeed, I have one).

I suppose the following true account could be classed as a supernatural happening and it concerns a certain Arthur Shea. He was Chief Projectionist at a cinema where I started work with him as a trainee projectionist in 1962 when I was 15 years old and we worked together for eight years until 1970, when he left to go to another job. He was a good work mate and a good friend whom I kept in contact with over the years, although I hadn’t actually seen him since 1990, twenty years earlier.

Well, one night in January, 2010, I had a strange dream. I dreamed that I was sitting on my settee, looking through a pile of records, when I youngish man in a gray suit came and stood behind me with a concerned look on his face. I turned around and asked him what was the matter? “Arthur Shea is dead”, said the man. “Is he?”, I asked. “Yes”, said the man, “he was 81.” “I haven’t seen it in The Sentinel”, I told him. “You will do”, said the man and then I woke up. What a strange thing to dream about, I thought to myself.

Well, that was in the early hours of Thursday morning and on the Friday, I went to the newsagents for my copy of The Sentinel, as I do every day and came back with it and sat down on my settee and began to read it and eventually got to the Births, Marriages and Death pages…and there it was…the announcement that Arthur Shea had died, aged 81 (he would have been 82 in June, 2010). I was really taken aback. Not just by the announcement, but by the fact that I had been told about this by a strange man in a dream two nights previously! Isn’t that one hell of a strange occurrence?

I wonder who the strange man was and if he indeed was my spirit guide. Notice I asked him “What’s the matter?” when I saw him and not “Who are you?” Could it be that I knew this man in my dream state but not in my waking hours? Who knows?
