Your spirit guide team or committee
First, you have more than one spirit guide. You have inner circle spirit guides who work exclusively for you and who are with you all the time. Then you have outer circle spirit guide team, each member with specific function, such as your astral guide who guides you through the astrals while you sleep. Beyond this, there are your teachers, masters, and angels . . .
When I just say “spirit guides”, I’m talking about the inner circle spirit guides. You want to focus on communicating with them because they know you intimately and they work closely with you. If there are jobs that are beyond their capabilities, they can pass it on to higher guides and work as mediators.
You may also have one or more special assignment guides on the inner circle. These are temporary spirit guides (by temporary, I mean for a few weeks or for the rest of your life) with specific assignment.
Who are spirit guides?
Your spirit guides are NOT your ancestors nor your deceased family members. At least, I have never seen such cases. However, you may have shared physical lifetimes with them in your past life. Or you may not have.
You hired your spirit guides at some point in your life. Typically, people are born with one spirit guide (also called birth guide) and hire more spirit guides as they grow up. The hiring ends as you reach adulthood (by age 30 usually), with four to seven spirit guides on the inner circle. Of course, special assignment guides are exceptions – you may be hiring them at any time in your life, as the need arises.
Your spirit guides have agreed to serve as your spirit guides, so don’t be afraid to utilize them. They want to help you. They do their further development by serving you. They are a few steps ahead of you in spiritual evolution, so they have higher perspective and insights that you can benefit from.
Common questions about spirit guides
1. “Why do I have more than one spirit guide?”
It’s better to have a team. Each spirit guide has personalities, just like we do. Some lead the team with grand big visions, but don’t pay much attention to details. Some are happy, smiley people person (sorry, I mean spirit) and hold the team dynamics. Some are good at technical analytical thinking. Some are very nurturing and comforting. Together they make a great team.
If you recognize only one spirit guide, you may be communicating with your first (birth) guide. He or she can work as the representative of the whole team.
It’s also important to understand the number of spirit guides on the inner circle doesn’t mean better or worse. A team of four is just as well as a team of six. Personally, when I had six spirit guides (prior to my soul shifting), I found myself communicating with just two of them most of the time. It was easier for me that way.
2. “Isn’t it better to communicate with higher beings, like angels?”
It’s essential to leave elitist thinking here. Your inner circle spirit guides are just a few steps ahead of you, which means they can relate to you well, and vice versa. Don’t underestimate them just because they are not terribly ahead of you. You don’t want super advanced guides. That’s like having Einstein teach high school science. The students won’t learn much from him ? they need a teacher who can explain things in their terms.
This doesn’t mean higher level beings like angels are not useful to us – of course, they are. On a daily basis, however, your spirit guides are your trusted resource.
3. “What’s the name of my spirit guide?”
I guess this question comes from the idea that you need to know the spirit guide’s name to communicate with them. Well, you don’t. You can just address them “my spirit guides”.
But of course, more information such as the name and appearance of each of your spirit guides can help you tremendously, so I offer Spirit Guides Reading. 4. “Do I need help from a psychic or medium to communicate with my spirit guide?”
No. You don’t need them. You are fully capable of communicating with your own spirit guides yourself. However, you may find it helpful to get some training.
It’s like learning how to drive a car. Did you find it helpful to have someone more experienced next to you when you were first learning how to drive? Most likely. And hopefully, that someone was able to explain things in the way you understand rather than just screaming “NO!”

5. “But do I really have spirit guides?”
Aaaaagh, this is a super critical question. Because you are right, some people do not have spirit guides. I’m sorry, I don’t intend to scare you, but it’s something I frequently find in my Akashic Record Reading.
Some souls lose spirit guides with traumatic experience. Some souls dismiss them by mistake. Or there could be any other reasons. Clients who don’t have spirit guides usually know this at a deep level. They feel very lonely and helpless, literally. They may have given up prayers because they were disappointed with the results of their previous prayers.
When I find out there are no spirit guides, I restore the spirit guides team. (Yes, it’s absolutely possible to restore them! So don’t despair.)
Another very harmful situation with spirit guides is that some people have negative spirit guides who misguide them. This is extremely confusing because you can’t tell if an advice is coming from a good spirit guide or from a negative one. (Again, this situation can be repaired.)

Akemi – this topic has been on my mind lately. I considered myself Buddhist for many years, and the idea of spirit guides, at least as you describe them, does not exist in that tradition. In Tibetan Buddhism there are definitely many layers of beings, and we might have teachers in other realms, but I have never come across the idea that we have a group ‘assigned’ just to us. So this is difficult for me to accept. On the other hand, I never feel alone, I do sense many guiding teachers, particularly within the Buddhist lineage that I studied within. So I guess my question is, if spirit guides are so universal, why isn’t the idea of spirit guides found in all the major religions, including Buddhism? Thanks-

Well, I’m not an expert in world religions or Buddhism, other than I’m originally from a country that is predominantly Buddhists. And I know Japanese believe in spirit guides — they just don’t call them that way.
There are many forms of Buddhisms because they didn’t kill all the unorthodox believers like Christians did. I think the original Buddhism is about multi deities, so the idea of spirit guides become rather irrelevant (when you already have thousands of deities of various kinds). Zen Buddhism, on the other hand, believe in oneself and only, so I guess they don’t endorse the idea of spirit guides. . .
But I don’t think it is important to justify the idea of spirit guides by existing religions. What matters is what works for you.

1. What sort of things do negative spirit guides get you to do? Do they get you to go for a job that’s not good for you, give up religion or hate yourself? Also, where do they come from and why are they attracted to you?
2. Once you dismiss your spirit guides, do they ever return on their own? And how do you know they have returned?
3. Is it possible to experience spritual guides while on mind-altering medication such as anti-depressants?

Can music be a spiritual guide? I’ve found through the years that the only thing that has remained consistent even in the midst of depression and when I’d given up on everything else including friendship and religion , is my love of music. Listening to it, collecting it, researching the meanings of lyrics. All sorts of music. And I’m not an aspiring artist or singer.

Great questions!
1. Negative spirit guides run a program that manipulates your thinking. For example, it causes you to be extra anxious when you don’t need to be. Do they direct you to a mismatched job? Perhaps.
I don’t know exactly where they come from. Like all other spirit guides, we hire them — by mistake. Like this negative guide who has a program of anxiety. At some point in their life, the client wanted to feel anxiety — probably as a way to get motivated at work so that she could get ahead in the corp world. So she hires the guide, without knowing the long term effects of having such program and the spirit guide who runs it. Now she can’t relax when she wants…This is just one example, but I hope it gives you an idea how things work.
2. Like all other clearing of energetic issues, I consider my clearing of negative spirit guides to be a done deal. This doesn’t mean you won’t ever have another negative guides, though.
3. Well, I have no experience with mind altering drugs, so I may not be the right person for this question. I strongly doubt such drugs to be even remotely helpful, however. I mean, you don’t need such stuff to communicate with your spirit guides. They are always with you and willing to communicate with you.
Spirit guides are non-physical beings. Music can be a great help to get you relaxed so that you are more receptive to your spirit guides’ messages. Or your spirit guides may use music as a way to pass their messages.

hey im 17 ive kept in contact with my spirit guide who i discovered on the ouija board when i was 14 (he told me he was a protector) hes helped me loads over the past few years and at some points predicted a near future event i usualy communicate with him through automatic writing now what id like to know is
1. will he ever break contact so we no longer communicate because it seems i talk less to him now.?
2. other than autowriting and ouija what other way is good to communicate?
3. how do i actually know hes my spirit guide and not just my sub concious mind?

Well, I don’t know you nor your spirit guides, so I can only respond in a generic way:
1. Spirit guides can leave us, although that is a pretty rare event. It also depends if that specific spirit guide is a permanent member of your team or if he is a special assignment guide to begin with.
2. You can just talk to your own spirit guides.
3. That is a challenge many people have. One way to overcome this doubt is to act on their advice and see what happens. If it’s really their guidance, the result would be somewhat different from your regular course of action that you take, which is usually based on your ego.

Thanks for your feedback on a previous post. It’s taking me a long time to digest all of it.
When I talked about mind-altering drugs- I was talking about antidepressants- which make you feel numb and unable to feel normal emotions like concern, romantic love etc. Therefore, would you be able to receive messages from your spirit guides in this numbed state?
I’m finding this whole idea of spirit guides difficult to grasp. Can spirit guides lead you to reading a book/several books that change your life? Can spirit guides guide you to overcome depression and start viewing life in a positive life? It seems that this might have happened with me. But could this just be my subconscious? How do I know my spirit guides want me to be happy? Why? What could be the over-all purpose of their guidance?
Another question I have is- are there any signs which could point to what gender you were in past lives? Anything that could indicate who you were in a past life? I can’t get a sense of who I could have been. I feel very ordinary. My life is ordinary. I have no significant passions. I’m drawn to everything and anything.

What fantastic information you have on offer. I had a couple of reki sessions a few years back and the lady said I had a dark snake shape like energy inside my tummy that I had called in to help me deal with something when I was younger would this be a negative spirit guide maybe? I have been thinking alot about trying to contact my guides but honestly Im really scared, is this normal? I often get the deep down feeling that I am alone and suffer depression ,addiction, anger management issues and major mood swings and in times of dispair I often find myself asking for help. I hope Im not ignoring my guides, do they give up on us? I also have the feeling that Im going to get in trouble, is that a normal feeling?
Ok i sent my spirit guide once to protect someone while i was away from them ( though i was healing them at a start w/ my guide) can i lose her that way?
How do we restore them? Or do we get them back when we make contact again?
And by restore, do you mean restore the same guide, so we started with so and so, lost them, and then got them back? Or new guides? How do I restore?

I’ve been very successful at contacting my spirit guides through meditation. I mostly communicate with my main spirit guide because I feel the most comfortable with her and she seems to appear the most. Two others usually appear only when I ask. Anyways, I haven’t meditated for awhile since my busy college and social life has taken over me. I knew my spirit guides would still be there if I don’t communicate through meditation but lately I’ve been scared that they’ve left all together…especially my main one, Elizabeth but I never dismissed them. I’ve always felt love with them and never wanted them to leave. Is it possible they just left or could it be that they’re not needed in my life at this point in time?

I just saw your website and love it . I was thinking of going to a medium and wanted to wait till I had some money to spend . I have been through alot of trauma in life such as a tumor and some psychosis. I have gone to a hindu temple and felt love the first time I was there like it was home before my tumor and psy. I still have questions about life and were I’m going. I still want to achieve my goals like starting a tutoring business or counseling center. Something that has to do with helping kids with developmental problems and help them succeed in life. I love to read books about spirit guides things like that or past lives. I used to live in Sedona and loved it there it was magical.
I’ve tried to meditate but I can’t seem to make contact with my spirit guides so I ended up ringing up a medium who told me that I had two guides. But what i dont understand is why haven’t they helped me in the past when I’ve specifically asked for it?!..and yes I have been patient! I’d like to recieve the odd message from them in meditation but nothing yet.
