Living Your Life Purpose

November 30, 2008 by

Do you know your life purpose? Are you living your life purpose? How are you making progress in fulfilling your life purpose?

So many of us are waking up to realize we do have purpose in our life, that life is not some random accident but we came here for certain reasons. But many are also frustrated because, as much as we sense we have life purpose, we cannot figure out what it is.

I know the frustration of not knowing the purpose of my life

I certainly know that frustration – I lived in it for years. In my early years, I thought I could find my purpose in higher education. I studied hard and was admitted to one of the most prestigious universities in Japan. Boy, it disappointed me. There was also a time in my life when I thought I could find my purpose in a relationship. Nope. And I did my share of corporate life in America.

Since I left my corporate job last year and put my full attention in my spiritual development, I now feel I have a better perspective on this issue of life purpose. I have the sense of direction that I am making a progress in my life purpose, and this gives me calming satisfaction.

In fact, this was the very reason I started this blog. I want to help you live your purpose. (And if that involves starting a business – which is not necessarily the case but sometimes is, I want to help you in that effort, too) Yet I realize I haven’t written a core post on what life purpose is, so here it is.

General and individual life purpose

In the most generalized level, we all come to live in the physical life form for one common purpose: to experience life in this physical world and to learn and grow through the experience. Steve Pavlina puts it this way in his recent interview with Hunter Nuttall:

“. . . So if consciousness is the only potential common element to this life and the afterlife, then we get the greatest possible long-term gains by developing our consciousness in this life. And what’s really fascinating is that by focusing on the development of your consciousness now, you’ll enjoy an incredible life while you’re here. You’ll lose your fear of death because you’ll know you’re doing the very best you can to prepare for it. And once you lose your fear of death, you’ll live much more fully in the here and now.

For starters you’ll be less timid about taking risks such as quitting your job to start a new business. After all, if you accept that you’re going to die, how you can be afraid of minor stumbling blocks like going broke? Those things are just part of the expansion of your consciousness.

Consciousness develops through expansion, through exposure to new experiences . . . We’re here to have the greatest growth experience – the greatest adventure – any conscious being could ever wish for. . . You’re here to develop yourself as a conscious being.”

So true. I would like to add to this, that there is a reason why each of us are unique. In addition to the big general purpose, each of us have more specific purpose, or set of purposes. Knowing the big purpose is helpful, but I think it’s also helpful to get more personal.

Expression of your uniqueness is one of your life purpose

Have you ever stopped and thought why each of us are different? Our uniqueness is a gift for for ourselves and to the whole world.

Large part of our unique strengths (and challenges) come from our soul origins. Each of our soul (what Steve calls consciousness) has origins. Is this surprising to you? If our soul can survive the death of this lifetime, it has survived many previous lifetimes. Go all the way back when it first incarnated in the physical body on Earth. Where was it before?

For many people, life is meant to be simply lived. There is nothing wrong about this – these people are the salt of the Earth. Their souls know only this Earth, and in the early stage of development.

If you are reading Steve Pavlina or this blog, however, you are probably not one of them. Deep down, you know you have higher aspiration and more specific purpose for your life (or for your many lives). Your soul originated in other sources to make certain contributions to this Earth.

Soul group and life purpose

The origin of the soul (sometimes called soul family) defines your soul level gifts. And you wanted to incarnate on this Earth so that you could make your contribution with your gifts. This is your group level life purpose.

When you express your wonderful soul gifts, when you offer your gifts to improve this Earth, you are fulfilling your life purpose. You are also growing spiritually yourself.

For example, some of my Akashic Record Reading clients’ souls come from outer space (the exact location is not identified at this time) and have firsthand expertise in the blueprints of this Earth and our souls – they really know how things were originally planned to work. Some know this into technical details. Because there have been many corruptions in the blueprint codes, they came to work on the restoration of the blueprints. They are working on the soul level to correct the negativity with their great technical abilities.

On the physical level, they may be working as engineers or program managers. Or economic analysts or medical researchers or even philosophers. These are all different ways they utilize their soul gifts, their analytical and well-organized thinking capabilities, and they are restoring the original blueprints. (I haven’t read his Akashic Records, so I’m not 100% sure, but I think Eckhart Tolle, author of A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Oprah’s Book Club, Selection 61), belongs to this group. See how meticulously he works on the technical accuracy and perfection.)

Another example is Dr. Eric Pearl of the Reconnection. He is considered to be a Pleiadian. (In this case, we know the location of his home.) Pleiadians are here to bring changes (and entertain us along the way).

Souls also take trainings, like taking college majors, that further define their gifts and purposes. I’ll write about this into details later in another post – this itself is a huge topic.

If you are interested in learning more about various soul groups (soul families), there is a book called Soul Mastery: Accessing the Gifts of Your Soul. It doesn’t include several soul groups somehow, and it doesn’t explain the critical steps to identify and straighten up the energetic issues prior to reading the Akashic Records (sometimes, the “book” may have the wrong cover, etc.), but it’s an interesting read.

Life purpose and life lessons

Each individual soul chooses a set of life lessons prior to incarnation. Dr. Brian Weiss’ Many Lives, Many Masters explains this important issue. So working on the life lessons you yourself chose before incarnation is part of the life purpose. This is your life purpose that is specific to this lifetime.

By the way, this is another thing I check in my Akashic Record Reading, and it is such a joy when the client says something like, “I knew this! This XXXXX has meant so much in my life! So I’ve been learning this all my life.”

Then there are some additional purposes, such as healing the energetic wounds you still suffer from previous lives. Along the way, we intend to fulfill some soul agreements we made with other souls.

Your life purpose is NOT a must-do list given by someone else

I hope you are not getting overwhelmed. It is essential to realize that living your life purpose is more about being than doing. I know it looks like we have to do so many things. But our soul’s expansion does not correlate to the quantity of experiences. We can learn so much and make huge progress in our life lesson from one experience. And expressing your soul gifts is more about offering that special energetic quality through your existence than doing something with it.

Your life purpose is definitely NOT an order from heaven that says, “You must do this, or else.” (True divinity doesn’t use this kind of fear tactics.) You, your soul, chose your own life purpose. Let me summarize:

  • You chose your origination and training, and you came here to offer your special energetic qualities.
  • You chose to come to life each time you incarnated to experience this physical world and to grow and evolve.
  • You chose your own life lessons for this lifetime.

Look, aren’t you a beautiful soul? So ambitious and so generous. You chose all these with joyous expectations – otherwise, you didn’t have to incarnate.

Hi Akemi. I feel more tuned in to my life purpose since our Akashic Record reading. However, the challenge I “believe” I’m facing now is how to manifest AND receive financial abundance for living my life purpose. I realize that I’m out of alignment with divine abundance (no surprise there given my current situation), but given that I’m 100% aligned with divine love, means to me that the universe wants very much to support me. Somehow I’m blocking this and for the life of me I can’t understand why…. but that’s not gonna stop me :-)

  2. PeaceLoveJoyBliss on December 1st, 2008 1:19 am

Akemi, it never occurred to me that many people are meant to live simply, to be the salt of the earth, knowing only the earth, at an early stage of development.

This insight jolted me a little, but for my own purposes, I’m glad I have it now.

  3. akemi on December 1st, 2008 8:42 am

I LOVE your last statement “that’s not gonna stop me” You go girl.
Sometimes it takes a bit time to manifest your intention — tell me about it — my blessings go to you.

I think I know what you mean. Each of us are indeed at a different stage of development, on a different path, although our ultimate destination is the same. Sometimes I get personally discouraged when I deal with the Earth people, but I know it is more about my issue — taking their state of being and their indifference in spiritual things personally.

    Hi Akemi,

I like this discussion about life purpose. I can remember a time, not too long ago, when I felt a real sense of struggle about not knowing exactly what my life purpose was and that if I could just get more clear about it, things in my life would flow much more easily. Realizing what you mentioned above about how life purpose is more about an energy that I came here wanting to express than something specific I intended to do really took a lot of the self-imposed pressure off. Also, I enjoy the realization that my life purpose continues to evolve as I keep living my life and experiencing and becoming more. Before it felt like there was this separation between my soul-self and physical self and my soul-self had this pre-defined mission that my physical self was “supposed” to complete for this lifetime to be really successful. Now it feels much better to think that my physical and spiritual aspects are working together all the time in a creative process of molding my path as I go along – taking into account what I was before I incarnated into this lifetime as well as what I have expanded into as a result of this lifetime so far.

    In love and light,

  5. PeaceLoveJoyBliss on December 1st, 2008 3:55 pm

Davina, perhaps one way around the block to financial abundance is to invite and embrace other forms of abundance into your life, to explore and cultivate other forms of wealth, such as time, vitality, solitude, quietude, peace, love, joy, bliss … I’m sure you could come up with many others that suit your life purpose.

Adrianne, this resonates with me: Realizing … how life purpose is more about an energy that I came here wanting to express than something specific I intended to do really took a lot of the self-imposed pressure off. Although I’d be more inclined to say “energies” rather than “an energy”, I suppose that it is possible to describe “energies” in terms of “an energy” (such as love).

Akemi, you do know what I mean. In Many Lives, Many Masters. Dr. Weiss’ client channelled a master who said that it’s important that we mingle and interact with those whose vibrations are different from our own so as to promote learning and growth at soul level. In the larger scheme of things, I can see why the Old Ones would want this to happen. However, I can also see that vibrating harmoniously with a select group makes the process of learning and growth more enjoyable and meaningful.

  10. M. on December 2nd, 2008 6:14 am

I think I have a good idea of what my “life purpose” is.
Though, I don’t think of it in those terms. It’s more like, I know who I really am, and that I’m just playing a role here. What I’ve had to do is figure out what that role is, so I can align with it.
The result of that alignment is inner peace, and that’s all that matters in the end.
(I think I have most if not all of the “symptoms”: )

I’m not focused on any sort of abundance, even if I know I can have it — I don’t need it. I know I always have enough for what I need to do.
All that I really have to do is make it clear to myself what it is that I *want* — by what I want I know what my role is — and with that clarity I haven’t had and won’t have any difficult “choices”.

It’s got a lot to do with intelligence, really.

I don’t recommend that approach to everyone.

Though there’s probably a lot of things I can’t just figure out with that “intelligence”. I’d get a reading or something but I don’t think I trust the local ones. This place is very… unspiritual. x_x I think I’ll survive without that knowing, though, for now.

  11. akemi on December 2nd, 2008 7:39 am

You are the Chief Executive Commenter here. I welcome your intelligence and creativity.

You sound to be very in alignment. Knowing your life purpose is all about knowing who you are, so you are already there. And it’s so true that once you know that, all decisions come naturally.

  12. Adrianne on December 2nd, 2008 10:58 am

Christopher, Yes, thinking about it more I’d agree with M and say that by energy I mean alignment. It’s like there’s an energy stream that I can feel when I am inspired or excited or really in tune with myself and the Universe as a whole. When I align myself with this and sort of let it flow outward through me and into the world then I feel like I am living my life purpose, and I can always tell this by how good I feel. I think the specific ways this stream flows through me leads to my unique expressions of energies like creativity or love or whatever the “now” moment is inspiring me to express.

Akemi, Thanks, it’s fun to be here and to share in this discussion :)

  13. PeaceLoveJoyBliss on December 2nd, 2008 5:51 pm

Davina, they do make “cents”, but then attracting an insanely filthy rich stream of money has always been about generating and dellivering value to a select group of people. What is blocking you from generating and/or delivering?

Akemi, I know I’m welcome, but I winced inside when I read “Chief Executive”, like I’d been struck with a two-by-four in the solar plexus. As for taking care of your comments section, I’d have to charge $1,000/hour at the very least :-)

Adrianne, I love the running energy stream metaphor that you express, as it resonates deeply with my Self Soul Spirit mediating the ego and the Witness. I enjoy the wonderful way you articulate, with a clarity of pure running water.

  14. akemi on December 2nd, 2008 8:54 pm

Oh — I’m sorry my words hit you in the solar plexus. It was a joke. I guess it wasn’t your kind of joke.

  15. PeaceLoveJoyBliss on December 2nd, 2008 9:56 pm

Akemi, it’s not about what you said; it’s about what was said.

You might say I’m still smarting (a little) over getting fired from a cushy job two years ago because of an email with a link I sent to a CEO, with the intention of being helpful, in response to a call put out by him for ideas on how “we” could all be more productive. It was only in retrospect, after I had been let go, that I figured out the reason. As I’m sure you (and anyone who has been let go) already knows, getting fired is a rather impersonal, inhumane process these days. The link’s title? “Here’s an idea: let your employees have ideas”.

I swear, I sent it in good faith! ;-)

  16. akemi on December 3rd, 2008 9:27 am

So the word CEX brings unpleasant memories to you. I’m sorry to hear what happened. I know you are a very intelligent and kind person. And I’m sure you were devoted to your job and the wellbeing of the people there. Their rejection was about THEM, not about YOU. Like I explained in the article, some people (yes, many people) are not developed well yet. They don’t have the perspective we have. I’ve been in similar situation in my corporate life.

  17. Adrianne on December 3rd, 2008 11:56 am

Thank you Christopher, I am happy that you enjoyed what I said and the way I said it. I agree, the energy stream metaphor is a really helpful one. I like it I because it’s very visceral to me – when I am aware I can really feel if I am going with the flow of the stream or bucking the current. While I think I always had an intuitive sense of this stream, studying the work of the Abraham – Hicks collaboration has really helped me bring it into conscious awareness.

    Hi Akemi

A beautiful and useful post. Thank you.

We are being so bombarded with rules and expectations and norms that it is often difficult to get anywhere near our life purpose. I’ve battled for years and am finally on my path. Although all that history has had its own purpose.

This is my first visit on your blog and I like the spirituality you bring into what can be a very hard world.

  21. akemi on December 4th, 2008 8:35 am

Welcome to Yes to Me! I’m glad to hear you have found your path.
Hang around — as you can see, this is a very compassionate community.

  22. PeaceLoveJoyBliss on December 4th, 2008 9:08 pm

Akemi, I appreciate your kind feedback. Just for the Record, I accept full responsibility for what happened, despite my naivety at the time. The situation surrounding my release is a lot more complicated than I let on. I’m inclined to think that my Self Soul Spirit orchestrated the entire process so as to release me from an increasingly difficult and oppressive situation. In light of your post on Purpose, and in retrospect, it was as if I were being led along a path that would have me find new opportunities for learning and growth. Which is what happened.

Adrianne, like you, I love going with the flow and following my bliss, as I grow younger and wiser in my outlook, knowing with ever greater awareness that it is life living me rather than me living life. In light of your interest in A-H, you might also be interested (if you aren’t already) in the channelling prowess of Bashar, Story Waters, and Lee Harris, all of which you can see on YouTube.

Very thought provoking post! I am not sure what my purpose in life is…and I am fine with it! It used to upset me deeply…I thought I have to be something. I am not important if I am not “someone.” Thankfully, I woke up from that ego torture! I am living my life fully in the present moment. I try to give purpose to all that I do…by just paying more attention. I am just me in this moment and that is good enough!

I’m really curious about the soul families. You mentioned a Pleiadian. I understand there’s also Essassani, Gray, and a few others. Could you tell us a little more about the different families and what attributes they typically embody, or perhaps point us in a direction where we could find out?

Would the book Soul Mastery have some information on this particular subject?

    Hi Ariel,

There are over 20 soul families. It’s a very interesting topic, but I’m a bit hesitant to write them with descriptions because then people would start “guessing” which soul family they may belong to, and this is NOT about guessing. Like, two soul families may exhibit similar characteristics, but they have completely different history as groups. Plus 20 plus soul families’ description can be quite overwhelming to most readers.

If you are interested further, my recommendation is 1) read the book Soul Mastery (somehow it doesn’t cover all the families, but it’s a good start) 2) get Akashic Record Reading from me ^_^
