When Babies Refused To Be Born

when babies refused to be born

This story may sound like something that would happen in the future, but time is in loop, and what would happen in the future may have happened already.

***
People noticed there were less and less babies being born.

At first, they just heard of couples having trouble to conceive. They felt sorry for such couples but they didn’t pay much attention.

Then they heard of their friends, or friends of friends, having the same problem. The news started to spread that there were less new babies.

People seldom saw babies in restaurants and parks any longer. They realized how much joy they were receiving from seeing babies, even strangers’ babies. They felt sad and worried, but they didn’t know what to do.

The governments encouraged people to have babies. Various scientific studies were done to increase fertility. Yet, the number of new babies kept decreasing.

Finally, the day came when no baby was born in the world.

***

People prayed. They found a sage who could go to the land of unborn babies and asked her to go talk to them.

Her spirit flew the night sky and went to the land of dawn, where the spirits of babies to be born lived.

“Hello, dear babies,” the sage said, “It seems you have quit to come down to the physical world. What is going on?”
“What is going on?” The babies repeated back. “What is going on down there?”

One baby spoke up in a clear voice. “Ma’am, we are very afraid of going down there these days.”

“It appears to be a horrible place,” another baby said, “The air and the water are polluted, people are lying and killing one another, so many people work long, hard hours just to get by. . .”

“What is the point of going there?” yes another baby screamed, “We are intelligent beings. We don’t want to participate in such stupid dramas.”

The sage thought for a while and said, “Yes, indeed, our world has deteriorated much. You may experience a lot of pain and troubles when you are born.”

“But,” she continued, “You can change how things work there. Maybe you can find ways that let everyone lead happy, fulfilling life. Maybe you can clean up the Earth. And you sure don’t need to lie and kill one another.”

The babies discussed this. They knew they were smart and capable, so this suggestion made sense. It even gave them excitement in anticipating the changes they would initiate.

***
But they had other concerns.

“While we are here, we know we are One. We love one another,” said one baby, “It seems once we move to the world down there, we forget this love. Isn’t that why you people lie and hurt each other?”

The sage thought for a while and said, “Yes, indeed, you will forget the oneness when you are born into individual bodies. You will likely feel lonely, at least for a while.”

“But,” she continued, “You can form loving relationships there. You do that by recalling the love you already have now. And when you do form relationships there, while you are in individual vehicles, it adds new dimension to the love.”

The babies discussed this. They knew they were the love, so eventually remembering the love didn’t sound so difficult, even in a savage world. And they got curious how love might feel when they had individualities.

***
After the long discussion, one baby spoke up. “Okay, maybe going down there and being born isn’t that bad after all.

We have the courage to endure the temporary pain and challenges. We have the diligence to work through problems. We have the patience to wait for the time when we rediscover love.

But is it worth it?

We already love one another deeply. We already know we are One. We are happy here. There is no lack, no poverty, no hunger, no fear, no hate, no dishonesty . . . this is the perfect world.

Why do we want to leave here and dare to be born?”

The sage replied, “I cannot answer that question. You must find it out for yourself. And you can find it out only when you do dare to be born.”

All the babies became quiet.

And, one by one, they jumped into the twilight to be born.

    Dear Akemi,
Thanks for this amazing post!! I think im one of the babies who were ‘tricked’ by the sage to go down to earth. Ever since i was a kid i always question ‘why do i exist here?’ sometimes i blame my parents for making me exist here. (even though it was partly my fault to have agreed to come down here). and ever since i was a kid i always wonder why the human race is enslaved by the monetary system, where we need money to exist in this world, and we are stuck with consumerism. this is ridiculous. i mean look at the birds, they have freedom, they dont need money to exist, they totally live in harmony with the law of nature and supported by mother nature. while we stuck in the cycle of mundane human existance of work-salary-pay bills-pay taxes-get married-have kids-get old-sick-die. i can really understand why those babies doesnt want to incarnate here. im sorry if my comment sounds pessimistic, im just rambling here cos i had a bad day. sending you lots of love and please keep writing!
